Workers and the “Golden Age of Social Democracy”, 1945-1975 Conference

26. 4. 2023 - 28. 4. 2023
Bochum, Germany

The aim of the conference (scheduled for 26-28 April 2023 in Bochum) is to study, in global perspective, how the post-war decades provided a range of opportunities for workers and movements that spoke on behalf of workers. At the same time, it wants to address the limits of this supposed “golden age” of the labour movement.
There were nine panels and Natalia Jarska presented a paper on Poland in a panel on the "Feminization of the Working Class".
The paper addressed post-war medical expertise on women's work in Poland, and discussed its contribution to shaping of gender equality in the workplace. It also traced the evolution from strictly occupational health medical approach towards sociology of medicine that addressed women's lives in a holistic way, incorporating the study of housework in the research on women's work and health.
